Queen St Mall is always busy but there is a sense of recklessness and quiet desperation in the air. The Police are very visible, numerous signs state and restate various rules, CTV cameras abound.
On a bench I met June from Coorparoo; she was hoping to 'scratch up' some money.
"What will you spend your winnings on?"
"Bills and a holiday."

No, she is not a Chanel lady. She would not even have noticed the shop was there.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sobering post, Mark. An air of quiet desperation. Yet with all that policing and all those rules, there is litter under the bench.
Bills and a holiday. I wonder how long since she had a holiday.
