Is This Australia's Smallest Post Office?
Rock Valley is a very quiet hamlet about 20 minutes out of Lismore. The Post Office is claimed to be Australia's smallest. Thanks to Sandy for showing me this interesting place.
It could well, I guess that's bit of a challenge to see if anyone has seen one smaller! It looks like it's beautifully maintained, love the billboard with the latest headlines out front.Hope you have a good weekend Mark.
HHHMMMmmm... perfect for the Red Nomad OZ treatment! That's if it really IS the smallest one - I have a vague recall of another one somewhere else. Now you've got me curious!!!
Thanks for posting this photograph. My Dad just passed away about a month ago. He lived on a banana plantation on the side of the mountain in Rock Vally from 1937 to around 1943.
Dad used to ride his horse down the mountain to the one-teacher primary school in Rock Valley. When he reached high school, he used to leave the horse down in the paddock and catch the bus into Lismore. On the trip home he used to help the Rock Valley postmistress to sort and tie the mail to be delivered by the bus driver going into Cawongla.
We put this photograph on the back of Dad's order of service for the funeral.
That is a lovely story. Posting on my blog every day can sometimes be a chore but hearing how you used my shot inspires me to keep going. My condolences to you and your family.

ReplyDeleteI imagine the postmaster sweltering in there on a hot summer's day though.
ReplyDeleteA post office with a view.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't mind being postmistress there :-)
Such a beautiful area. Is the post office still open these days Mark?
